DPDP cost calculator

What will DPDP compliance cost your organisation?

Answer six questions. We estimate the first-year cost of DPDP Act compliance for an Indian organisation — line by line, with every assumption spelled out. No email, no account, and we store nothing.

Full-time employees and contractors
Databases, CRMs, analytics, HRIS — count every system
The DPDP Act imposes extra obligations on SDFs: mandatory DPO, periodic audit, DPIAs. If unsure, we assume possible SDF for a safer estimate.

Example for a 120-person general-sector organisation with 10 systems — the defaults below. Change any answer to see your own figure update.

This is an estimate, not a quotation. Actual costs depend on vendor selection, negotiation, and your specific compliance posture.

Low ₹8.1 L
Most likely ₹17.9 L
High ₹39.6 L
  • Gap assessment one-off ₹1.4 L – ₹4.7 L

One-off. Assumes a 3–6 week DPDP readiness review for a 120-person organisation in the general sector, managing low data volumes across ~10 systems, with an in-house team. Mid-point: ₹2.75 L at base scale.

  • DPO / privacy officer annual ₹2.8 L – ₹11.2 L

Annual. Assumes a DPO at ₹20 LPA with an allocation that scales with headcount and SDF status. For a 120-person organisation (treated as possible SDF), the mid-point allocation is ~30 % of a full-time DPO; smaller orgs use a fractional DPO, large SDFs approach full-time. Mid-point: ₹6 L at base scale.

  • Consent management platform annual ₹93,500 – ₹5.6 L

Annual SaaS. Assumes an India-market consent management platform at ₹20 K/month for the mid tier, scaled by data volume (low) and system count (~10 systems). Low: basic banner; high: full geo-aware CMP. Mid-point: ₹2.4 L at base scale.

  • DSR handling annual ₹56,100 – ₹4.5 L

Annual. Assumes a data-subject-request workflow tool at ₹15 K/month for a mid-volume organisation, scaled by data volume and headcount. Low: manual email-based; high: automated portal with identity verification. Mid-point: ₹1.8 L at base scale.

  • Policy & notice drafting one-off ₹56,100 – ₹2.8 L

One-off. Assumes privacy policy, cookie notice, and consent notices drafted by a mid-tier Indian law firm (₹1.25 L for the mid-point), scaled by sector complexity. BFSI and health attract higher quotes because of sector-specific obligations. Mid-point: ₹1.25 L at base scale.

  • Audit & assessment annual ₹74,800 – ₹4.7 L

Annual. Assumes an external audit at ₹2 L per cycle for the mid-market, scaled by SDF status (DPDP §14 mandates periodic audit for SDFs) and headcount. Low: internal review only; high: certification-readiness engagement. Mid-point: ₹2 L at base scale.

  • Staff training annual ₹37,400 – ₹2.3 L

Annual. Assumes privacy-awareness training at ~₹1,200/employee for in-house delivery (NASSCOM-aligned), scaled by headcount bracket. Larger teams benefit from scale but the absolute cost rises with headcount. Mid-point: ₹1.2 L at base scale (~100 employees).

  • Data mapping / ROPA one-off ₹70,125 – ₹3.7 L

One-off. Assumes a structured Record of Processing Activities engagement at ₹1.75 L for a 10-system mid-market org, scaled by system count and data volume. Low: spreadsheet-based internal effort; high: automated data-discovery tool + legal review. Mid-point: ₹1.75 L at base scale.
